Terms of use and liability
Last updated October 2, 2026
In short: Braille a Day is a free practice tool, offered as it is. Check anything important against an authoritative UEB source or a qualified teacher, and don't rely on the site for anything where a braille mistake could cause harm. The full terms follow.
1. These terms
These terms apply to your use of Braille a Day at brailleaday.com (“Braille a Day”, “we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. If you use it on behalf of a school or other organisation, you agree to them for that organisation too.
2. Using Braille a Day
Braille a Day is a free tool for practising reading and writing Unified English Braille by sight. You may use it for your own learning and teaching. Please don't:
- try to break, overload or get around the site's security;
- use automated means to scrape it or create practice history in bulk;
- copy the site, or present it as your own;
- use it to break any law.
Braille a Day is not directed at children under 13. A child under 13 should use it only with a parent, guardian or teacher, who is responsible for that use.
3. Accounts and your data
You can practise letters, numbers and punctuation without an account. Practising the word and Grade 2 decks needs you to sign in with Google. You're responsible for keeping access to your Google account secure. What Braille a Day keeps, and why, is set out in our privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
4. Content
The site's design, text and code belong to Braille a Day. Braille itself, and the Unified English Braille code, belong to everyone. You may print or share individual letter pages for teaching, with a link back to the site.
5. Educational use only
Braille a Day is a practice aid. It is not a braille course, a certification, or a substitute for teaching by a qualified teacher of students with visual impairments or a certified transcriber. It teaches reading braille by sight, not by touch.
We check the braille on this site against the UEB rules, but mistakes are possible, and some UEB rules (such as when a contraction may be used) are simplified or left out. Don't use Braille a Day as the only check on braille that someone will rely on, such as signs, labels, medication or safety information, exam answers, or transcriptions. If you spot an error, please tell us at [email protected].
6. No warranty
Braille a Day is provided free, “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement. We don't promise that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, that it will meet your needs, or that your progress, streaks or account will never be lost.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- Braille a Day and the people who run it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of data, progress, profits or opportunity, arising from your use of the site or your inability to use it, even if we were told such loss was possible;
- we will not be liable for any loss arising from relying on the braille shown on the site, including for any of the uses listed in section 5;
- our total liability to you for any claim about the site is limited to the amount you paid us to use it in the 12 months before the claim, which, for a free service, is zero, or 50 US dollars where the law doesn't allow it to be zero.
Some places don't allow some of these exclusions or limits. Where that's so, they apply only as far as the law there allows, and nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
8. Your responsibility
You agree to cover any claim, loss or cost (including reasonable legal fees) that we incur because you broke these terms or the law while using Braille a Day.
9. Other services
Sign-in is provided by Google, and analytics by Mixpanel, under their own terms. We're not responsible for services or websites we link to and don't control.
10. Changes, suspension and ending
We may change, pause or close Braille a Day, or any part of it, at any time. We may suspend or remove access for anyone who breaks these terms. You can stop using the site at any time, and ask us to delete your data as described in the privacy policy.
We may update these terms. If we do, we'll change the date at the top. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
11. General
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. These terms, with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Braille a Day.
